bringing Olympic and world-class experience to Dodge Ridge
Dodge Ridge President Sally Helm has named Corby Fisher as the new Snowsports School Director. Fisher will be responsible for providing leadership and vision to the Snowsports School and the Dodge Ridge Race Team. In addition to the Snowsports School, Fisher will also be in charge of the Events department. “This is a strong step for Dodge Ridge to provide a greater experience to our Snowsports customers and enhance Dodge Ridge’s family tradition” said Helm.
Fisher comes to Dodge Ridge with a long tradition of excellence in skiing. Growing up in Steamboat Springs, CO Fisher was on skis before he could walk. The Steamboat Springs Winter Sports Club was a perfect fit for Fisher as he grew up racing his friends around Mt. Werner and eventually excelling in Nordic ski jumping.
Fisher was named to the US Ski Jumping Team in 1992, but a series of serious injuries cut his promising career short in 1995.
While studying at the University of Wyoming and the University of Utah, Fisher began coaching at the National Sports Foundation (NSF) in Park City, UT. It was at the NSF that Fisher developed his coaching and business skills, progressing as the Head Coach and Director. Fisher created ground breaking international results in ski jumping in an extremely competitive European environment. Under Fisher’s direction, the NSF grew to be the largest club in North America and was the host club for the ski jumping events during the 2002 Winter Olympics in Salt Lake City, UT.
Following the winter of 2002 Fisher progressed to the US Ski Team as Head Ski Jumping Coach for the US Nordic Combined Team. Fisher had an immediate impact and made history as his athlete, Johnny Spillane, won the first gold medal in US Nordic history at the World Championships in Val de Femme, Italy. In 2004, Fisher was promoted to Head Ski Jumping Coach, leading US jumpers in world cup competition around the globe. In 2006, Fisher again made history as the youngest Head Coach at the Olympic Games in Torino, Italy.
Following the Olympics, Fisher decided to trade in the grueling travel schedule for something much closer to home and transferred his knowledge of how to create a winning team and his love of skiing to Deer Valley, UT. At Deer Valley, the number 1 ski resort in North America, he was the Assistant Children’s Program Manager, returning to his first love of seeing children learn to ski.
Fisher is excited about his move to Dodge Ridge. “After skiing around the world, from Steamboat to Sestriere, I was looking for a great spot to share my love of snowsports. With Dodge Ridge's investment in their new Family Lodge, and progressive terrain, it was a perfect fit for both my ski-family and all the people of California.”
“We are thrilled to have Corby here at Dodge Ridge. His energy and vision for the future are inspiring and we are looking forward to working with him for years to come” said Helm. Fisher is currently living in Cold Springs with his wife Emily, and 10 month old daughter Keely.
